Minimum Computer Requirements
All UT New College students are taking completing degree programs via distance education technology. In order for you to enjoy the learning experience to its fullest, the following computer hardware, software, and internet connections are required.
Computer Hardware
- PC with Pentium Processor 200-MHZ or better (400 MHZ or better strongly recommended)
- Apple Macintoshes, PowerPC or better (G3 strongly recommended); Mac OS 9 or higher*
- Microsoft Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, NT 4.0 or higher. (Windows 98 or 2000 preferred.)
- 64 Megabytes available RAM memory (128 megabytes or more strongly preferred)
- A CD-ROM drive or DVD drive capable of reading CD/R disks
- 20 megabytes of available (a.k.a. "free") hard disk storage
- Sound Blaster compatible audio card (16-bit or above)
- Audio speakers and a high quality, ambient noise rejecting microphone (NOT a USB microphone) OR a headset with attached speakers and microphone (strongly preferred)
Computer Software
Free downloads are available for some of the required software.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or better

Some versions of Netscape Navigator/Communicator may also work but are not supported through the New College Call Center and Help Desk. We suggest installing Internet Explorer for the convenience of your learning and troubleshooting needs. - Microsoft Office 2000 Professional (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
